Who We Are

Melanated Venture Scouts is a youth-focused program created to introduce black and brown youth ages 13–21 to the outdoors in a way that feels safe, empowering, and affirming. The program is intentionally designed to remove common barriers to outdoor access and provide young people with meaningful opportunities to explore nature, develop new skills, and build confidence in a supportive environment.

Through hands-on activities, guided nature education, and community service, Venture Scouts helps teens and young adults strengthen leadership abilities, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Participants are encouraged to grow at their own pace while developing a deeper connection to the natural world and the communities around them. By centering care, representation, and intentional guidance, Venture Scouts creates space for youth to feel seen, capable, and inspired to lead both outdoors and beyond.

Because Access Matters

Too many young people grow up without opportunities to safely explore nature, learn outdoor skills, or see themselves represented in adventure spaces. Venture Scouts exists to change that by creating structured, supportive experiences where youth can learn, grow, and lead — together.

Education Through Experience

Venture Scouts is built on the belief that the best learning happens through experience. The program focuses on outdoor skills and nature education while fostering leadership development, teamwork, and confidence in young people. Through hands-on activities, community service, and environmental stewardship, youth are encouraged to build responsibility and a sense of purpose. Cultural connection and representation are woven throughout every experience, ensuring participants feel seen, supported, and empowered. All activities are thoughtfully designed to be age-appropriate, beginner-friendly, and grounded in care.

Youth are guided by trained adult leaders in small group settings. Activities are planned with safety, inclusion, and growth at the center. We meet youth where they are and help them develop at their own pace.

Venture Scouts primarily serves black and brown youth, while remaining welcoming to families who respect our mission and values. No outdoor experience is required — curiosity is enough.
